The belay device Banana has a number of characteristics that make it more practical and easier to control than conventional tools. The tool has been conceived in function of the different introductions of the string, which are used by cavers to regulate the speed of descent to compensate for the diversity of diameter and quality of the strings.
The position axis of the stud top closure, in addition to facilitating the introduction-out of the ropes, even of large diameter, makes it much more simple recovery of the rope remaining before the tool. The pulleys fixed can be exchanged and turned by 180° in order to distribute the wear evenly.
In any case, the broad flanges that protect them are sufficient to reduce the risk from shocks that are more dangerous the more worn is the tool. The ingenious geometry and the position assumed under load give it a belay device with a great ability to stop. This allows several experts even use it without the usual "plug brake".
